Voice Over

Looking at the Trainspotting trailer we took the voice over at the beginning as inspiration for our film trailer.  We thought that it was a good way to introduce the characters and give the audience a bit of information about the trailer.
The breaking of the third wall keeps the audience interested in the trailer and makes them want to watch more.

Taking the idea from transporting we reenacting this in our own trailer we placed a voiceover at the beginning of the trailer to establish characters and a brief background of the group of boys.

However we found that recording a voice over was not as easy as we thought
We had many problems:

Hard to put emotion into a voice over
We struggled to put emotion into the voiceovers, this meant that we had to keep retaking as we didn't think that it fitted the piece.

We didn't take into account the background noise at the beginning, this muffled the voice actor and made the piece seem amateur.

Mistakes, try try and try again!

We solved this problem by borrowing a voice recorder from the music department, recording the audio in a soundproof room where the actor acted while he spoke. The result was the voice over in the final product.

Evaluation Question One

Website Research

When creating our website, we furthered our knowledge of 'The Riot Club' by analysing and breaking down the aspects of their website that we think successfully engages the audience to want to watch the film. However, we wanted to broaden our knowledge of other thriller/drama films by looking closer into more current films and how they produced their websites. A personal favourite of mine has been the recreation of 'Pride and Prejudice', evolved into 'Pride + Prejudice + Zombies'. When looking at the website of this film, the first thing we noticed was the animation at the bottom of the screen of the zombie's hands reaching up to wards the screen. We were really interested in this use of animation however because of the website we decided to use (Shorthand), our knowledge was limited and were unsure on how to make this happen. As this film is a thriller/action, it could be argued that animation on our website might not actually be suitable and our thriller/drama genre means that the website should be more basic with less occurring on screen.

One aspect of this website that did influence us was the basic colour palette and how these colours were used often in the film. Their choice of colours link closely with the period of the film, encouraging us to do something similar. We stuck with dark, dull colours illustrate the drama genre but also used the red tones of the fire to reiterate the thriller side of the genre. By doing this it sticks to our colour palette and also demonstrates to the audience the nature of the film and the dark side it has as it progresses.

Within the first few pages, we informed the audience what the film was about which was then followed by the trailer, having the poster at the very top, being the first image that the audience see. We purposefully did this to give the audience all of the information they need to see the film and the reviews that we received for it, encouraging them to scroll on through the website and discover more about the film. We also provided the audience with the ability to buy tickets through the website, which links them up to the odeon website. We also advertised an interactive quiz where by the audience can discover which character they are similar to, giving them an insight into who is involved in the plot.

Our main reason for using the website builder 'Shorthand' rather than 'Wix' was because we found that it was easier to navigate by having clear sections of the website at the top of the page. Furthermore, we felt like the whole layout of the website was much more professional, looking more like the websites we had previously anaylised, reassuring us that our trailer and ancillary texts are looking more and more professional by the day.

Research into Teenage Suicide

Suicide rates differ between boys and girls. Girls think about and attempt suicide about twice as often as boys, and tend to attempt suicide by overdosing on drugs or cutting themselves. Yet boys die by suicide about four times as often girls, perhaps because they tend to use more lethal methods, such as firearms, hanging, or jumping from heights.

Most teens interviewed after making a suicide attempt say that they did it because they were trying to escape from a situation that seemed impossible to deal with or to get relief from really bad thoughts or feelings. Like Ethan, they didn't want to die as much as they wanted to escape from what was going on. And at that particular moment dying seemed like the only way out.

Charlies Story Line,
Charlie is the shy one in the group, he has been friends with Jack (the Leader) for years and this is why he has been accepted into the group. He is a respectable guy with amazing future prospects with him working hard at school and taking on responsibility such as being a prefect. Charlie doesn't like whats happening to his group and cant handle the pressures of it getting out of hand.
